Social Justice and Progessive Issues Policy Support

Masa Group offers social justice policy services in regards to legislative and regulatory advocacy on both an interim and long-term basis. Masa Group can provide interim support while your organization is in the midst of staffing up or expanding. When you need experienced and trusted policy consultants, Masa Group can also help. Services include developing and implementing strategic policy programs, building and fostering relationships on the Hill and in the administration, and producing ongoing policy deliverables.

Parental Leave Interim Services

Coverage of employee responsibilities during parental leave is a challenge for many employers, especially those working in such a specialized area like policy advocacy. As experienced providers of interim services supporting policy advocacy, Masa Group is able to assist organizations by offering a customized interim policy designed to provide support during parental leave. Typically, for this interim service, after a contract has been signed with estimated dates of coverage, Masa Group meets with representatives at the organization approximately one month prior to the expected date of coverage to develop a plan of action. From there, a member of the Masa Group policy team will engage in brief 15-minute updates weekly until coverage officially begins. This model is helpful because it ensures a relatively seamless transition of coverage, as Masa Group will be ready to begin coverage as soon as needed. Likewise, our team-based model also provides flexibility, should the term of coverage need to be extended or amended.

Policy Campaigns

Masa Group can directly support organizations looking to jumpstart a new campaign or build on an existing campaign. As part of these services, Masa Group can identify key stakeholders, start up and manage coalitions, produce key deliverables, and create a campaign plan that incorporates policy, communications, legislative advocacy, administrative advocacy and more. Masa Group can offer a scaled amount of support both in creation and execution of campaigns, depending on the needs of your organization.

Appropriations

Appropriations is a chaotic yet critical process, especially for those with advocacy interests. For those who want to engage in this process but lack the capacity or expertise to do so, Masa Group offers the following services, designed to provide primary support from March through June (the traditional appropriations period), with the option to extend if necessary. Our all-inclusive services include:

  • Identifying budget priorities and developing appropriations bill and report language requests

  • Submission of bill and report language requests to Congressional offices

  • Scheduling and facilitating meetings with Congressional staff regarding appropriation requests

  • Monitoring of Appropriation Subcommittee and Full Committee markups, including amendment-related advocacy

  • Follow-up lobbying after markups are completed

Coalition Management

We offer coalition management services, including identifying, developing, and managing coalitions around specific policy areas or topics. For foundations that are providing support to a diversity of stakeholders that would benefit from having an experienced hand to support and assist them in developing a framework for an ongoing and recurring coalition of stakeholders (including recurring engagements, mapping out strategy, identifying stakeholders, general advocacy, and logistics) Masa Group can offer training, capacity building, and other support services. Masa Group's coalition management services enable stakeholders to better collaborate with each other and maximize foundation support in desired issue areas. Combined with our Policy Support or Policy Campaign services, Masa Group can also lead the development of coalition products and deliverables.

Immigration Policy “Bootcamp” Trainings

When hiring a junior-level policy staffer, an organization needs to be prepared to spend a substantial amount of time bringing the candidate up-to-speed on the current political environment, as well as the institutional knowledge of an organization, and the general day-to-day details of working in policy advocacy. For organizations that want to ensure their new employees are fully prepared and ready to effectuate change, Masa Group offers policy advocacy training for junior policy staffers. These trainings offer comprehensive training on a specific subset of immigration policy advocacy, including legislative and regulatory advocacy. Ideal for both newly emerging organizations and veteran policy organizations, these trainings leverage Masa Group’s extensive policy and advocacy experience to provide real world examples, templates, and guidance for organizations seeking to maximize their understanding of immigration policy advocacy.

Immigration Policy Advanced Trainings

Additionally, we offer advanced training more suited for mid-level and senior policy staffers looking for professional development opportunities. These training leverage Masa Group’s extensive policy and advocacy experience, offering trainees the opportunity to increase the breadth and depth of their knowledge. These trainings include knowledge on both legislative and regulatory immigration policy advocacy.
