#ClimateMoves Campaign
In 2021, we worked with Tom Wong and the US Immigration Policy Center at UC San Diego to develop and execute an education campaign to work with advocates and academics to educate Congress members, staffers, the administration, and the public (press) about climate change and climate displacement. Though growing numbers of people are displaced from their residences every day due to slow- and fast-onset climate-related disasters, the United States immigration system is not prepared to address climate displacement.
During this campaign, Masa Group:
Worked with subject experts to draft and circulate three reports and three letters (legal, NGO, and Congressional) describing public preferences, the fiscal impact of refugee resettlement, an original backgrounder, and the administrative and legislative available solutions for climate displacement.
Attended a White House briefing on their Report on the Impact of Climate Change on Migration as well as a coalitional prep call for an engagement with the administration.
Planned, prepped, and carried out two educational events on climate displacement.
The first was a half-day strategy conference with four one-hour panels (legal, political, public preferences, and advocacy) exploring climate displacement from different angles.
The second was a Congressional briefing for staffers on climate displacement and Congressional next steps.
