Rajani Gudlavalleti
Rajani Gudlavalleti (she/her) is a Senior Policy Advisor with Masa Group. She has served as a nonprofit executive director, community organizer, grantmaker, and public health researcher. Rajani has a B.A. in Sociology and English Literature from Willamette University, and a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from Johns Hopkins University. In her graduate studies Rajani focused on gender-specific and racially equitable approaches to criminalized issues such as drug use and sex work. She is a long-time Baltimore resident who was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area in a large immigrant community.
Rajani is a queer South Indian-American with deep experience in social justice work. For over 15 years, she has worked at the intersections of racial justice, public health, and the legal system. Rajani has been raised in, trained by, and worked with a variety of communities in movements of liberation together. From 2015-2020, Rajani served as a workshop facilitator with Baltimore Racial Justice Action and founding organizer with Baltimore Asian Resistance in Solidarity. Since 2017, she has worked with Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition (BHRC) in community organizing and policy advocacy for overdose prevention site legalization, drug and sex work decriminalization, police reform, expansion of health care access, and more. In 2020, Rajani was promoted to co-executive director of BHRC, providing high-level project management and overseeing its transition to independent 501(c)3 status.
Throughout her career, Rajani has worked with a variety of organizations and institutions dedicated to advancing progressive policies and community-based projects. She held positions at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore City Health Department, Open Society Foundations, and Silicon Valley Community Foundation. In 2023, Rajani joined the board of the National Harm Reduction Coalition. She has spoken at several national gatherings, including the Drug Policy Alliance’s Reform Conference and the National Health Care for the Homeless Policy Symposium. Valuing rest and creativity, she loves to read BIPOC sci-fi and explore the woods with her husband.
