#TPS4Mexico Campaign

The #TPS4Mexico campaign is dedicated to securing a designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Mexico as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, which continues to disproportionately impact Mexico. Under 8 U.S.C. 1254a, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) may designate a country for TPS, which provides employment authorization and protection from deportation for all noncitizens from that country currently residing in the United States, including undocumented immigrants and visa holders, if it is unsafe to return those individuals due to unsafe conditions.     On February 17, 2021, nearly 50 legal experts sent a letter to President Joe Biden and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas outlining the administration’s legal and executive authority to designate Mexico for TPS as a result of COVID-19.
